Ahmadi religion differs from the core tenets of Islam in fundamental ways. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad deviated from fundamental Islamic beliefs in ways that no Muslim can view as part of Islam.
Highlights
- Ahmadi or Qadiani religion differs from Islam in its fundamental core tenets.
- Ahmadi religion declares Mirza Ghulam Ahmad to be a prophet, whereas Muslims believe that there can be no new prophet of any type after the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
- Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed to be a reincarnation (نعوذ بالله) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
- Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has insulted respectable prophets and the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ in his writings.
The Qadiani or Ahmadi religion is distinct and different from Islam. Many people do not comprehend why this distinction exists, and ask, why are Qadianis not Muslim? The short answer to this question is simply: Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s religion is blasphemous to Islam, and there are hundreds of instances in his writings of sacrilegious content, each of which is sufficient to expunge him from the fold of Islam.
Here, using references from Mirza’s own writings, we present eleven fundamental reasons why Ahmadi or Qadiani religion is inherently different from Islam, and where Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has flouted the core tenets of Islam.
1. Denial of Oneness of Allah
Tauheed, Monotheism or Oneness of Allah ﷻ, is the most important belief of Islam. A Muslim, by definition, is one who believes in Tauheed, and even the slightest inkling of shirk, or associating anyone with Allah ﷻ, expunges one from Islam. After all, this is why Christians are not considered Muslims, and this is the primary reason the Prophet ﷺ fought against the pagans in Makkah.
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, however, believes:
In a long narration of a kashf, or divine inspiration, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad writes,
To associate another being with Allah ﷻ is shirk to begin with, but as a mere human, claiming to become a part of Allah ﷻ and using it to spout sacrilegious nonsense and passing it as the order of Allah ﷻ Himself is the highest order of blasphemy.
Mirza Qadiani has also written sacrilegious and disrespectful content about Allah ﷻ. For example, he writes:
2. Claim of Prophethood
It is also a salient belief of the Muslims, one that is necessary to be a part of the ummah, that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the last prophet sent to guide mankind until the Day of Judgement. Prophethood has ended with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. To claim prophethood after him is explicit disbelief and deviation from the Islamic creed.
It is stated in Sharah of Al Fiqh Al Akbar, an early text on Islamic creed by Imam Abu Hanifaؒ, that:
Yet, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad says,
These are but a few instances of Mirza Qadiani’s explicit claims of prophethood. There is the consensus of the ummah that anyone claiming prophethood after the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his followers is outside the fold of Islam.
3. Claim of being the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s claim of prophethood is not just of an ordinary prophet. Contrary to Islamic creed, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad concocted the belief that there would be the second coming of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He claimed that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came the first time in Makkah as Muhammad Bin Abdullah, and then a second time projectively (in baroozi form) as Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Bin Ghulam Murtaza. That is, Muhammad’s ﷺ spirituality, along with all the attributes of prophethood, became manifest again. Here are some references to his sacrilegious beliefs:
Mirza Qadiani professes this repulsive belief further as follows:
This belief has been further clarified by Mirza Qadiani’s son, Mirza Bashir Ahmad, that
The verse mentioned here, Quran 62:3, “And (this Messenger is sent also) to others from them who did not join them so far”, is universally understood by Islamic scholars to mean all those Muslims who came after the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Qadianis came up with a novel interpretation to force a new meaning on this verse, which has no support whatsoever from the Quran, the Hadith, the understanding of the Companions and Islamic scholars throughout history.
Mirza Bashir Ahmad further writes:
Of course, no such belief is endorsed by the Quran in any way. It is only Mirza Ghulam Ahmed and his followers who make this baseless assertion.
4. Distortion of the Meaning of the Kalima, the Declaration of Muslim Faith
The Kalima Tayyibah, لا اله الا الله محمد الرسول الله, is the basic declaration of faith in Islam. One who affirms it enters the fold of Islam. Yet, the Qadianis have distorted the meaning of this very kalima, interpreting it differently from what the Muslims have believed in ever since the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Mirza Bashir Ahmad was asked why they do not have a new kalimah when they have a new prophet? He responded:
He further writes:
Here Mirza Bashir has made it clear that when Ahmadis recite this Kalima, they interpret the name “Muhammad” to include Mirza Qadiani. Hence their Kalima interpretation is completely different from that of Muslims, and reciting this Kalima does not make them a Muslim.
In fact, unlike all earlier prophets who each had their own kalimah, Mirza Qadiani “steals” the Muslim kalimah, something that more than a billion Muslims were already reciting, to claim that it actually refers to him!
5. Insult of the Prophetsؑ
Muslims are obligated to believe, respect, and honor all of the prophetsؑ who came before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The slightest disrespect to a prophet of Allah will be considered disbelief. From his writings, it is apparent that Mirza Qadiani does not revere Prophetsؑ as they are revered by Muslims. You can judge for yourself from the following quotes:
To believe that the prophetsؑ were anything less than pure and sinless and that they did not fulfill their duty that Allah ﷻ sent them for is highly sinful and against Islamic belief.
6. Denial of Prophet Isa’sؑ Birth without a Father and the Chastity of Mariamؑ
Prophet Isa’sؑ birth without a father was a miracle of Allah ﷻ, explicitly established in the Quran. Mirza Qadiani not only denies Project Isa’sؑ birth without a father but seems to ridicule his virgin birth and rebuff the chastity of his mother, Mariamؑ, in direct contradiction to the Quran, which takes a person outside the fold of Islam.
To accuse and speak so disrespectfully of holy figures, including a Prophetؑ, who has been honored by the Quran and in Islam so highly, is unforgivable.
7. Insult of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ
Given Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s sacrilegious writings regarding Allah ﷻ, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and other prophetsؑ, the insult he heaps on the Companions of the Prophetؓ is actually not surprising. Judge for yourself whether the author of these statements can be a Muslim?
The followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed have taken to following his lead and disrespecting the Prophet ﷺ, his family and his companionsؓ by referring to Mirza Ghulam Ahmed’s family using Islamic terms reserved by Muslims only to revere and respect the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ family and his companionsؓ.
8. Contempt of the Quran
It was not enough for Mirza Ghulam Ahmed to disregard the Quran and misinterpret it completely. He also created his own sayings and claimed they were a part of the Holy Book. He says:
Mirza Bashir Ahmad, his son, further clarifies the Qadiani creed regarding the Quran:
Considering Allah ﷻ has revealed that the Quran has been completely revealed to the Muslim Ummah through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Mirza Ghulam attempting to pass his own utterances as part of it while denying true utterances is profane. These statements demonstrate a complete deviation from Islam.
9. Contempt of the Hadith
Mirza Ghulam has no respect for the Hadith just as he has no respect for the Holy Quran. He disrespects the Hadith that does not follow his distorted beliefs by calling them “garbage”, as in his referenced words:
These statements of Mirza Qadiani have been further clarified in their organization’s newspaper, Al Fadl:
The fact that anyone has the audacity to disrespect both the Quran and Hadith this way, yet call himself and his followers Muslims, is laughable.
10. Denial of Obligation of Jihad
Hundreds of references in the Quran and the Hadith testify that Jihad is an important tenet of Islam, and according to hadith, it will continue till the Day of Judgment. The stance of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed on Jihad very clearly reveals his true alliances. He claims that Jihad is ‘unlawful’ and ‘haraam’ in modern times which stems from his avid support of the British government.
Declaring Jihad “haraam” (and that too just to appease the colonial masters!) is a clear denunciation of many verses of the Quran, which renders one a kaafir.
11. Declaring the Entire Ummah Kaafir
Finally, despite these sacrilegious and blasphemous beliefs that cannot be accepted by any Muslim, the Qadianis have the audacity to declare all Muslims kaafir. Mirza Ghulam Ahmed and his followers claim that any person who does not believe in the ‘prophethood’ of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed, even if they practice Islam in every other way, is a kaafir and not a Muslim. This, naturally, consists of the entire Muslim Ummah. The irony is that the very people who demand acceptance into the ummah, deny the existence of that very ummah in the first place. Mirza Qadiani writes:
Mirza’s successors followed the same creed. Hence, Mirza Mahmood writes:
This shows that for the Qadianis, considering all Muslims to be outside the fold of Islam is a matter of core faith. To not consider Muslims as kaafir renders one kaafir himself, according to Qadiani creed!
Mirza Mahmood further writes:
Mirza’s other son, Mirza Bashir Ahmad, clarifies this further:
Today, the Qadiyanis are complaining about being declared non-Muslims, arguing that no one has the right to decide about anyone’s faith. Yet, since over a hundred years ago, their own religious leadership has been consistently calling all Muslims kaafir, just for not believing Mirza to be a prophet of God.
These points combined paint a clear picture of the fundamental reasons why Qadianis are not Muslims, and why their complaints of discrimination cannot be sympathized with. Their beliefs, as referenced here from their own writings, are clearly contradictory to Islam. It is not a matter of freedom of religion – indeed they can make their own religion if they wish to – but to insist that their clearly deviant beliefs are Islam and to misguide people about core Islamic creed is unacceptable to Muslims.
What is astonishing is that the Qadianis have “stolen” and reappropriated everything from Islam, including the kalima, the personality of the Prophet ﷺ, the verses of the Quran, the terminology and the symbolism, then created a new religion from it, and are now declaring the original followers of that religion as kaafir and themselves as Muslim!
As Muslims, it is our duty to adhere to true Islam as it was explained to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. To allow acceptance or respect to the Qadiyanis beliefs would mean to align oneself with the above beliefs that are the height of shirk and blasphemy that no Muslim can believe in.
